TRAINING
MarineSafe Training Program
Foundations of Vessel & Safety Training
If you've recently bought your first vessel or have upgraded to a larger vessel and would like to gain the practical skills to confidently navigate, manoeuvre and handle your vessel safely, then this training program is for you!
MarineSafe Training is designed to provide individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to safely operate vessels in marine environments. It is essential for anyone who wishes to work or engage in recreational activities on the water, as it covers a range of topics related to vessel operation, navigation and emergency preparedness.
The primary objective of MarineSafe Training is to ensure the safety of individuals and vessels in various marine settings. It aims to equip participants with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills required to handle their vessel safely.
The training program typically includes both theoretical instruction and hands-on practical exercises, which is specifically tailored to suit the individual's vessel.
Topics Covered in the MarineSafe Training program include:
Vessel Operation
The training program begins with an overview of the individual's vessel and its manoeuvering capabilities and limitations. The participant will be introduced to the basics of nautical knowledge, including the correct methods of anchoring and gain an understanding of vessel stability, trim and buoyancy.
They will be given an overview of pre-departure checks and the vessel's steering and propulsion systems.
Navigation
Navigation is a crucial aspect of vessel operation. Participants are taught how to interpret navigational aids such as buoys and beacons, and use electronic navigation systems including GPS (Global Positioning System). They learn about plotting courses, calculating distances, using the vessel's compass and understanding tidal flows.
Rules & Regulations
MarineSafe Training emphasises the importance of adhering to maritime rules and regulations. Participants are educated on international and national maritime laws, local boating regulations and navigational rules of the road. They learn about right-of-way rules, collision avoidance techniques and the responsibilities of vessel operators.
Safety Procedures
Safety is a paramount concern in marine environments. The training program covers various safety procedures that participants must follow to prevent accidents and respond effectively in emergency situations. Topics include personal protective equipment (PPE), fire prevention and firefighting, emergency communication and
man-overboard procedures.
Emergency Preparedness
Participants are trained to handle emergency situations that may arise while operating a vessel.
Emergency preparedness training encompasses a wide range of measures aimed at equipping vessel owners (and crew members) with the necessary knowledge, skills and resources to respond effectively in emergency situations.
Environmental Awareness
MarineSafe Training emphasises the importance of environmental stewardship. Participants learn about marine pollution prevention measures, proper waste disposal and the protection of marine ecosystems. They are educated on the potential impacts of vessel operation on the environment and how to minimise their
ecological footprint.
